The Sunshine Coast community can now have their say on development plans for the sprawling Wises Farm, which include possible residential zones, shops and a child care centre in accordance with the late owner’s wishes.
Wises Farm was operated for the past 56 years by the well-known farmer Peter Wise, who passed away earlier this year after beginning the process of looking for a suitable buyer for the block.
The property, now in the hands of Mr Wise’s family, spans over 39 hectares in Buderim, bordering the Sunshine Motorway.
Mr Wise’s plans for the land, which were submitted to the Sunshine Coast Council in 2022, opened up to public submissions on July 22, 2024.
The final plans for Wises Farm show both low and medium density residential zones, a local centre and half a hectare of designated parkland, all of which would be spread across seven different precincts.
According to the planning document, if the proposal is approved, the site could accommodate a total of 570 houses or a maximum of 800 units.
“This precinct is intended to provide a mix of business / commercial activities, including retail, food and drink outlets (e.g. restaurants and dining facilities), offices, local health care services and an appropriate range of community activities and support services that promote an active environment,” the planning report stated.
According to the town planner and spokeswoman for the Wise family, Sheree Lyons, the only change from the original plan is that a portion of land initially planned to be kept for fig farming by Mr Wise will also be sold.
Ms Lyons said they worked with Mr Wise to create the plans in “accordance with his wishes” over the past few years, and continued to work with his family regarding the sale of the property.
“It is anticipated that there will be a shorter fig season this year. The figs were Peter’s hobby and passion and without his expertise, sadly with the sale of Wises Farm figs will eventually have to come to an end,” the family said.
“The family will continue to produce coffee, under the registered trademark of ‘Mountain Gold’. The coffee will be grown on the Palmyra property.”
Public submissions on the development proposals close on September 3, 2024.
