The Coast couple behind one of Maroochydore’s most popular cafes have promised to “do more of the same” with their community ideals when they turn the coffee machine on at their newest cafe.

Murrays on Sixth owners Kylie and Gavin Murray will soon open a second venue to bring great food, coffee and customer service to the northern side of Maroochydore.

Mrs Murray said opening a second Murrays had always been a dream of theirs, but they didn’t expect it to happen so quickly.

“This one took us by surprise,” she said.

“We were approached, and … when we did a walk through the site was just so beautiful and it definitely needs an offering of what we do down that end of Duporth, so all of the boxes were ticked.

“It was the right time to say, ‘Yeah, let’s back ourselves and do it’.”

Previously working in the pharmacy and building industry, Mr and Mrs Murray sold their house in 2010 to realise their hospitality dreams when they took over Aroma Bliss cafe in Maroochydore and created their coffee brand Rise and Grind.

The couple later sold Aroma Bliss and opened Murrays on Sixth in October 2014.

Mrs Murray said they were extremely grateful to be able to run the successful cafe and espresso bar as a career.

“We certainly don’t think ourselves anything special or more important than anyone else and we always wish success for everyone, but it’s quite humbling to know that people have appreciated what we have brought to the community and enjoy what we do,” she said.

Murrays on Duporth will open on October 11 in the Avalon building on Duporth Ave and will be a fully licensed venue.

“We want to bring a lot of the same, we want our community feel to still be there because our customers matter and are important to us and connecting with them is super important,” she said.

“We don’t plan on changing our motto in any shape or form and we feel like that’s what made us a success in our current site.”

Mrs Murray said they were “very grateful” for their loyal customers.

“We just love feeding people and we love, love, love coffee … we enjoy the customers as much as they enjoy visiting us.”

Murrays on Sixth will be co-managed by the couple’s son with a “young and bright team” while they focus on their new venture.

“Our little three ‘M’ company is still just that, three Murrays doing their thing,” Kylie said.

She said the owners of the building, Mosaic Property Group, had been incredible to work with in opening the new venue.
