Benjamin Graham Urquhart and Craig William Relf in court on murder charges

Two men charged with murdering a gym instructor who was facing serious criminal charges have not been given bail after they faced court for the first time since the alleged crime.

Two men charged with murdering a gym instructor in a north Brisbane motel will stay behind bars until their next court date.

Benjamin Graham Urquhart and Craig William Relf faced Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Saturday after they were charged with the murder of Christopher George Lymar, 48 at a Pine Rivers Motel in Kallangur

Mr Lymar, 48, died after he was allegedly attacked by a group of people following a disturbance at the motel about midnight on February 12

Lymar was found with head and leg injuries and died at the scene despite paramedics’ efforts to revive him.

Police said several bladed weapons were found at the scene on Anzac Ave, and an autopsy would reveal the cause of Lymar’s death.

“We believe an assault has occurred,” Senior Sergeant Tracey Martin alleged.

“A post-mortem has not been conducted at this stage yet, so we’re still trying to establish what the extent of those injuries were.”

Both men, aged 37 and 41, were charged with one count each of murder.

The Maroochydore court heard neither man, who did not appear via video link, had applied for bail.

The Courier-Mail revealed that Mr Lymar was scheduled to go to trial in Brisbane District Court in April on nine charges, including possessing and supplying dangerous drugs and importing tier-one goods without approval.

Mr Lymar appeared in Brisbane District Court in December and pleaded not guilty to the offences, which allegedly occurred from 2017-19.

Mr Lymar’s heartbroken friends described him as a “good man” and took to social media to pay tribute.

“Rest in peace brother, one of the best people I know,” a friend wrote on Facebook.

“Life was cut short early hours this morning.”

According to Lymar’s social media accounts he worked as a gym instructor and also worked in the film industry as an actor and extra.

Magistrate Catherine Benson ordered a brief of evidence to be prepared by March 28.

Ms Benson remanded both men in custody and adjourned the matters to Pine Rivers Magistrates Court for mention on April 11.

Anyone with information, or who may have any relevant footage, is asked to come forward and speak with police.
