An upscale international hotel group has revealed its first foray into the Australian market will be on the Sunshine Coast as work starts on a $50m development.

An international hotel company has revealed it will open its first Avani hotel in Australia at Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast.

Minor Hotels will open Avani Mooloolaba Beach Hotel in 2025, bringing its “millennial minded traveller” hotel concept to Australia for the first time.

Toowoomba-based KPAT is developing the 13-storey $50m tower after it gained Sunshine Coast Council approval in March, 2022, to transform the car park site.

Avani Hotels spruiks itself as an “upbeat and contemporary” hotel concept with properties in Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

The Mooloolaba project will expand Avani’s reach in Australia to the tourism market, adding to its apartment complexes in Adelaide, the Gold Coast and Melbourne.

Avani Hotels and Resorts owner Minor Hotels also manages Oaks Hotels.

The Mooloolaba resort will feature 180 rooms, four restaurants, meeting and conference facilities, a kids’ club, an AvaniSpa and a rooftop pool, bar, restaurant and wedding venue with 180-degree water views.

Minor International Group chief executive Dillip Rajakarier said he was delighted to introduce the first Avani hotel to the Australian market.

“We have been keen to add an Avani hotel into our Australian portfolio for some time and have been scouting for a first-class location,” he said.

KPAT project director Kenneth Wagner worked with Minor Hotels to develop The Oaks Toowoomba Hotel which opened in 2020.

“We are excited to watch that team bring Australia’s first Avani hotel concept to life in such an exceptional location,” Mr Rajakarier said.

Mr Wagner said he was looking forward to the project breaking ground in 2023 and delivering a unique product to the Australian market.
