A teenager has been arrested after another teenage boy was rushed to hospital suffering serious head, chest and abdominal injuries after allegedly being run down by a car on the Sunshine Coast - with witnesses saying they heard a “big bang”.
A Queensland Police spokesman confirmed police were investigating the traffic incident at Oceanic Drive, Warana, when a 16-year-old boy was hit by a car at 4.28pm, Thursday.
A witness said the boy hit by the car and a young male driver were known to each other.
“I saw it happen … a young man was ... run down by another young man," she said.
“The boy was conscious and coherent but had been run over. He was taken to hospital.
“Please, instead of sad jokes, give prayers for this young man’s speedy recovery. I’m not a religious person but tonight I am."
Another witness said parts of the road were closed for hours by police.
One witness, who lived nearby, said he heard a “big bang” then ran outside to see what was happening.
“It was really loud,” he said.
“There were lights and people everywhere.”
Police have taken the 17-year-old boy driver, who was driving a Volkswagen Transporter, into custody and he’s assisting with investigations.
The two teens involved weren’t local to the Warana area.
No charges have yet been laid. Forensic police are investigating.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said the teenage boy was taken to the Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.
She said he suffered serious head, chest and abdominal injuries.
