It’s the crime every homeowner fears, and now new data has revealed the Southern Downs town where you’re most likely to have your house broken into.
Despite theft and unlawful entry remaining one of the most common crimes on the Granite Belt, Queensland Police Service statistics indicate break-ins are on the decline across the region.
Most towns on the Southern Downs reported fewer break-ins every year from 2018 to April of this year, with the most dramatic drop in 2020 during COVID lockdowns.
Warwick emerged as the town with the most break-ins in the region, with a total of 298 within that time period.
The top three towns were rounded out by Goondiwindi and Stanthorpe with 187 and 94 respectively.
Goondiwindi was one of the only towns to break the declining trend, with increasing numbers since 2018 and the to-date 2021 total already matching that for all of 2020.
