More than 150 crimes have been committed in Stanthorpe in the past three months alone, with an analysis of police data revealing some startling trend.
New findings from the Queensland Police Service dated January 30, 2021 – April 29, 2021 revealed 176 crimes occurred within this period.
Drug- and traffic-related crime accounted for more than two-thirds of that figure with 66 and 61 offences respectively, followed by theft, good order breaches, and assault.

The Stanthorpe CBD was by far the most popular area for crime within the past quarter, with 62 offences committed on and around the main street.
Other hot spots for illegal activity included Matthew Street and the New England Highway.

February was by far the most popular month for crime in Stanthorpe, accounting for 85 of the total number of crimes committed within the past quarter.
March and April saw another 41 and 46 offences take place respectively.
Crime was most likely to occur at 11am, 1pm, or 8pm than any other timeslot.

The new statistics come as the Queensland Government’s 2019-20 crime report reveals crime has increased significantly in the Darling Downs and Maranoa district.
The report stated offences of all types went up by 11.3 per cent within that year, and had increased 57.6 per cent since 2011.
