Man charged with aiding man who allegedly headbutted Warwick cop, escaped custody

Police claim the 26yo was one of three people who aided the escape of a Stanthorpe man who allegedly headbutted the cop escorting him to his appearance in the Warwick courthouse.

UPDATE 3PM: A 26-year-old man has been charged with aiding the escape of a Stanthorpe man who allegedly assaulted a police officer before fleeing the scene on foot.

Police claim Clayton Michael-Johan Alvoen headbutted the police officer escorting him to the Warwick courthouse at about 2.30pm on Wednesday, then ran to a nearby car and escaped with others.

It is alleged the 26-year-old Broadwater man and two other women drove Mr Alvoen to bushland just outside Warwick.

The Broadwater man has been charged aiding a person to escape lawful custody and is due to appear in Warwick Magistrates Court on May 26.

Police are still searching across the region for Mr Alvoen, with the manhunt now stretching into its third day.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts should immediately contact police.

EARLIER: A man who allegedly assaulted a Warwick police officer at a court appearance before escaping in a getaway vehicle is yet to be located, almost 48 hours into a region-wide search.

Police claim Clayton Michael-Johan Alvoen was being taken to the Warwick courthouse from the watch-house at about 2.30pm on Wednesday when he headbutted his police escort, then fled from the scene on foot.

Patrols immediately launched an extensive search across the area for the 28-year-old Stanthorpe man, but it is believed he was driven away from the scene by others.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said the region-wide search had continued across Thursday and into Friday morning, but Mr Alvoen was yet to be located.

The Stanthorpe man was before the court on charges relating to assault, drugs, domestic violence, and drug conditions.

QPS confirmed “police have taken all necessary action in relation to those involved in the (domestic violence) matters” by Thursday morning.

The injured police officer was treated at Warwick Hospital for a minor facial cut.

Mr Alvoen is described as having a fair complexion with black hair and brown eyes, and is approximately 180cm tall with a slim build.
