Drug dealer busted with marijuana growing instruction manual

A Stanthorpe drug dealer was busted by police with instructions on how to produce marijuana plants.

A Stanthorpe drug dealer was busted with instructions on how to grow marijuana after his lack of propagation skills saw his weed plants die.

Police prosecutor Steve de Lissa told the Stanthorpe Magistrates Court that during a forensic download of Texas Cody de Vries’ phone, police found a number of marijuana plant photos and conversations referencing the supply of drugs between January 23 and April 26.

Sergeant de Lissa said there were also several digital manuals explaining the process for growing marijuana on the 31-year-old’s phone.

A number of destroyed marijuana plants were located by police in a drug raid of the man’s Stanthorpe home.

Defence lawyer Hamish Chapman said when police arrived at his client’s house, the man was no longer producing the drug.

Mr Chapman said his client was “not gifted with a green thumb” and failed to provide adequate care to the crops, causing them to die.

Mr Chapman pleaded with the magistrate for no conviction to be recorded as it would bring great embarrassment and shame to de Vries who would be unable to continue performing and teaching cultural dance workshops.

De Vries pleaded guilty to five counts of supplying drugs, one count of producing drugs, one count of publishing instructions for producing drugs and one count of possessing anything used in the commission of a crime.

He was placed on probation for nine months and no conviction was recorded.
