When Stanthorpe residents woke on a freezing July morning in 2015, they were greeted with a magical winter wonderland on their doorstep.

A thick blanket of snow covered roads, parks, and houses in what was the state’s most significant snowfall in 30 years.

Up to 10cm of snow was recorded in parts of the Granite Belt, with the fall exceeding original predictions of just “light dusting”.

The latest weather forecasts hint residents in parts of the region could again wake up to snow this week.

Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist Peter Markworth said the chance of snow and snow flurries was “quite unlikely”, with less than a five per cent chance on Wednesday.

“There is a pretty low chance of snow, but if it does snow it will only be at the elevated peaks of the Granite Belt,” he said.

With potential snow on the way again, there’s no better time to dive into the Border Post archives and revisit the region’s last huge snow day in 2015.
