When it comes to finding the Burnett’s best in the business, there is no shortage of talent to choose from.
Throughout 2023 The South Burnett Times we held a number of polls to hunt out the region’s best in a range of categories, and readers voted in droves to support their favourites.
The polls included Burnett’s best beautician, best piercing technician, best nail technician, best beautician, best gym, best personal trainer, best electrician and even the Burnetts favourite childcare educator.
The winners were chosen from strong fields of competition, showing there was quality on offer all across the region.
With another year wrapping up, take a look back and read about the region’s inspiring professionals.
Burnett’s best beautician 2023
Urbann Beauty Bar owner Mackenzie Orchard was crowned Burnett’s best beautician of 2023.
From their luscious lashes and carved brows, it isn’t hard to see why Urbann Beauty has become a Burnett favourite since opening in Wondai in February 2023.
Miss Orchard said she wanted to start her own business because it’s something she had always been passionate about.
“I love the flexibility that comes with it and being able to go above and beyond for all clients when possible,” she said.
Burnett’s best nail technician 2023
From more than 150 comments, Klawed by Kitty Nails’ Katrina Jaggard secured her position as the favourite with an overwhelming majority of nominations, and then a majority of votes to win the title of the Burnett’s best nail technician of 2023.
The passionate and artistic Ms Jaggard, 31, has made a significant impression on the region’s nail art lovers since opening her Kingaroy salon in February 2021.
Burnett’s best piercing technician 2023
Despite the tight race Candace Stower of Alicia’s Spa & Hair Worx came out as a clear winner with 52 per cent of the vote.
The 32-year-old piecing technician has worked for Alicia’s Spa and Hair Worx since 2010, and credits the community and the company for supporting her.
Mrs Stower is also a qualified beauty therapist, but when offered the chance to take on piercing leapt at the career change.
Burnett’s best gym 2023
A popular Kingaroy fitness centre which has gone from strength to strength since opening in 2015 was voted as the Burnett’s best gym.
Kingaroy Conquer Fitness won a majority of votes to name the region’s best gym, with Snap Fitness Kingaroy voted as the runner-up.
Conquer Fitness manager Lydia Jenson said she felt very thankful for the support.
“I’m very grateful to everyone that voted for us, all of our clients and the community,” Ms Jenson said.
Burnett’s Best Personal Trainer 2023
Jordanna Olsen of Conquer Fitness Kingaroy was named the Burnett’s best personal trainer, taking out 31 per cent of the vote in our reader poll.
The 30-year-old mother of two began her fitness journey a decade ago, after battling weight loss issues throughout her life.
“I started my own weight loss journey probably 10 years ago, as I’ve always been a larger girl,” Ms Olsen said.
She began her health and fitness journey with Conquer Fitness before quickly developing a passion for the industry.
Burnett’s best electrician 2023
AMG Electrical Solutions was crowned the Burnett’s Best Electrician of 2023, receiving 20 per cent of total votes.
Owners Mitch Gray and Aleisha Gray opened their business in 2013 and celebrated their 10 year anniversary in May.
The couple pride themselves on always doing the right thing by their customers.
“We always hold their best interests at heart and have served over 3004 South Burnett clients,” Mr Gray said.
Burnett’s favourite child care educator 2023
The winner of the Burnett’s favourite child care educator poll received an overwhelming number of nominations and votes from across the region.
Kirby Voss was crowned the 2023 winner of the competition, receiving 24 per cent of total votes.
The 27-year-old from Kingaroy completed a Bachelor of Early Childhood Education, at the Sunshine Coast University 2019, and began working at Kingaroy Early Learning Centre soon after.
Mrs Voss said throughout university she was driven by her desire to create meaningful early learning experiences for children.
“I work with 3-to 5-year-olds and focus on preparing them for school by creating a positive beginning to education,” she said.
