Burnett’s best piercing technician revealed | 2023

In one of the closest polls of 2023, Burnett readers have spoken and elected their favourite piercing technician of the year, a young mother with a great passion for the perfect little corner of the world she calls home.

Candace Stower named the 2023 Best of the Burnett Piecer.

A piercing tech with more than 10 years experience has been voted the region’s best following one of the tightest polls of the year.

Only five people made the finals for the Best of the Burnett Piercer of the Year, with the nominees battling it out for the votes.

Despite the tight race Candace Stower of Alicia’s Spa & Hair Worx came out as a clear winner with 52 per cent of the vote.

The 32-year-old piecing technician has worked for Alicia’s Spa and Hair Worx since 2010, and credits the community and the company for supporting her.

Mrs Stower is also a qualified beauty therapist, but when offered the chance to take on piercing leapt at the career change.

More than 10 years later she has continued with the role, and said she loved the variety of clients which come through her country town of Murgon.

“It’s something that I really enjoy, you see different people come through, the different generations and it is just lovely meeting all sorts of people from different areas,” she said.

“I just love my little sanctuary, seeing people in the street and knowing who they are and it is just this tiny community and it feels like a safe place to live.”

The young mother of two has no plans to leave the industry, and works alongside her mother, who owns the business, to provide a great service for the community.

“We still get people who have moved to the area and say ‘oh I didn’t know you guys did this in Murgon, it’s not somewhere you would think does it (offer beauty services)’.”

She credits the community for supporting her over the past 10 plus years, and the benefits good word of mouth has for regional businesses.

“Good word of mouth is the best advertisement that we can do, because it is just people’s recommendations and their good experiences that keep everything going for us.”
