The Kumbia Memorial Hall was packed full on Sunday, January 21, despite the heat wave when the South Burnett Regional Council presented its Australia Day Awards.
More than 60 peoples were nominated across 17 categories.
Tom Wilson, who will run for South Burnett mayor at the March 16 election, was thrilled with the reception winners received on the day.
“It was hot and no one cared, people were happy and cheering. Mums and dads bursting with pride, kids were clapping and waving their little Australian flags.
“This is why we celebrate Australia Day,” Mr Wilson said
Acting Mayor Gavin Jones said volunteers were an integral part of the community.
“Volunteers are so vital to community activities and community spirit so it’s a great opportunity for South Burnett Regional Council to acknowledge the wonderful work and wonderful people we have in our region,” Mr Jones said.
“The South Burnett Regional Council can’t afford to do everything and without volunteers a lot of things wouldn’t happen,” he said.
