PHOTOS: Singers work ‘like clockwork’ for Proms concert

Seven different South Burnett music groups joined their love of music for a tribute to the old British tunes.

JOY and the love of song was contagious at Sunday's afternoon concert, The Proms in the South Burnett.

Concert director Judy Lawrence said the show was 'absolutely fabulous.'

"The British do things by clockwork and we were as British as we could get with a bit of Australian thrown in," she said.

The crowd waved British and Australian flags as they sang along to old British tunes led by the choirs and soloists Anna Walker and Julee-anne Bell.

The Proms in the South Burnett was based off the well-known British event Last Night of the Proms, which takes place in London's Royal Alvert Hall.

Mrs Lawrence, the Blackbutt Singers' musical and artistic director, said this concert was bigger and better than the last proms they did in 2011.

"Some of our ladies from England suggested we do another Proms," she said.

The concert featured seven different musical groups from around the South Burnett.

"I wanted it to just be groups from the South Burnett," she said.

The concert kicked off with the tunes from the Mouldy Haggis Pipe and Drums group.

Mrs Lawrence said her highlight of the afternoon was Pomp and Circumstance, which featured the combined sound of the choirs and the South Burnett Community Orchestra strings group.

"It's that joy of making music together," she said.

"You could see it on their faces, there's nothing better for healing than singing together as a group."

The musical director said the concert's success was a tribute to each group's hard work.

"It's a tribute to all of the directors of the groups who worked together so well," she said.
