A YOUNG couple in the South Burnett has snapped up its first home for a bargain.

The couple bought a two-bedroom workers cottage on Appin St in Nanango at auction for $77,500.

The cottage is situated on 1255sqm corner block.

LJ Hooker licensee Clem Smith said it was "very rare" to see a house go for such a low price.

"It's a little starter home. It needs a full renovation," Mr Smith said.

"It was an opportunity a young couple took advantage of."

Five bidders were registered when the home went under the hammer on October 8.

Mr Smith said the real estate market was "very competitive" in the South Burnett.

"It's a great place to live and the homes are for great value," he said.

"There are properties being sold, people are seeing the value."
