Robert John Parker and Cody James Swann charged with animal cruelty

Two Swickers staff members allegedly caught on camera kicking, whipping and killing a sow have fronted a South Burnett court.

Two Swickers Kingaroy employees charged with animal cruelty fronted the Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Thursday.

Robert John Parker, 66, and Cody James Swann, 30, did not enter pleas when they faced the court on July 13.

The pair are co-accused of two counts of animal cruelty and are yet to enter any pleas.

A video taken by Animal Liberation Queensland is alleged to reveal footage of the men repeatedly kicking, pushing, hitting and spraying a sow with a high-pressure hose before killing her.

Department of Agriculture and Fisheries prosecutor J A B‘Aleo said Mr Parker and Mr Swann had sought legal advice from Adrian Hawkes from Hawkes Lawyers.

‘Terrible accident’: Family evacuated in late-night fire

“His clients wish to seek an adjournment for four to six weeks to make submissions to the prosecution,” Mr B‘Aleo said.

Magistrate Andrew Sinclair said prison was a potential penalty for offences such as these.

The case was adjourned to September 7, 2023 and Mr Parker and Mr Swann were required to sign a bail undertaking.
