A chaotic police chase has ended in the arrest of two people after they allegedly stole multiple vehicles, including a 4WD and an ATV.
Police will allege the two first broke into a property in the Brisbane suburb of Chermside and stole a Range Rover about 10pm Sunday, August 18.
Then, on Monday, August 19 the vehicle was allegedly tracked from the Sunshine Coast to Blackbutt where tyre spikes were deployed.
The vehicle continued on from Little Mountain to Nanango, and was later abandoned along the Burnett Highway at Sandy Ridges.
The two occupants allegedly fled on foot and were tracked by the dog squad.
The pair then allegedly stole an unoccupied John Deer Gator utility vehicle from a Sandy Ridges Road property.
Home security footage captured the slow-speed pursuit on Sandy Ridges Road near Nanango, where the suspects reportedly tore through a neighbour’s property before fleeing on foot.
Resident Shandi Boyes witnessed the events outside of her house.
“By the time they reached Sandy Ridges Road, they had a Gator,” Ms Boyes said.
“They tore up the neighbour’s property and then went on foot. Police dogs were brought in.
“They entered the only gate that was open at the end of the street and went around and around the back paddock of our neighbour’s place for several minutes, doing circles since the police had blocked the exit.
“They eventually dumped the Gator and went on foot over the back fence. Sniffer dogs were brought in, and we heard a police officer yelling for someone to get on the ground. “It was dark by then.”
Ms Boyes said a tow truck came later in the night to collect the ATV.
Another witness reported seeing the allegedly stolen 4WD earlier in the day, describing it as “the most exciting thing I’ve ever seen” as it sped through Yarraman.
On Tuesday a spokesperson for Queensland Police Service confirmed the ATV was located in a nearby vacant lot, with the dog squad locating and arresting the pair a short time later.
A 23-year-old Wilsonton man has been charged with burglary, two counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and dangerous operation of a vehicle, evade police, trespass and traffic offences.
He was denied police bail and is due to appear before Murgon Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
A 14-year-old Cherbourg girl was charged with two counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle, and one count each of burglary, trespass and an outstanding arrest warrant for robbery.
“Police would like to thank members of the community for their assistance,” the spokesperson said.
