A once promising young rugby league talent violently stabbed, tortured and threatened to kill his ex-partner, while she was pregnant with his child.

Casey Lloyd Fraser faced nine domestic violence charges when he fronted Kingaroy District Court on Friday and Wednesday.

He pleaded guilty to six charges, including assault occasioning bodily harm while armed, threatening violence, common assault, wounding (domestic violence) and torture.

The court heard he wanted to have a “contested sentence to tell his side of the story” regarding the charges two counts of common assault (domestic violence), and threatening violence with a weapon.

The 31-year-old has amassed an extensive history of violence, with the court told “he is a danger to women”.

Prosecutor Alex Stark said Fraser’s most recent offending was in January 2022 when he unexpectedly arrived at his ex-partner’s property, one day after she had ended the relationship because he was “being scary”.

The court heard Fraser had asked her to drive him into Kingaroy and when she refused he punched her in the face repeatedly and grabbed her hair.

Mr Stark said she fell to the ground as he continued to punch and kick her.

“She feared for the life of her unborn baby and tried to cover her stomach,” he said.

“She tried to run away but he chased her and threw items at her.”

The court heard Fraser told her he would “put a knife through” her and threw a lighter at her hand, causing it to bleed.

The woman agreed to drive Fraser and he continued to punch her in the head while she drove.

Mr Stark said Fraser stabbed the woman in the thigh with a pair of scissors and threatened her.

“I’ll put these scissors through your throat right now,” the court heard he said.

When they arrived in Kingaroy he ordered the woman to stay in the car, taking the keys.

At one stage the woman needed to go to the toilet and Fraser insisted on going with her.

“He threatened to kill her and their unborn child and over the next five days he abused her via text,” Mr Stark told the court.

The woman said she has suffered emotional pain and suffering.

Fraser will appear at Maroochydore District Court on Thursday, February 23.

“He is a danger to females in the community, especially those who have been in a relationship with him,” Mr Stark said.

Fraser’s criminal convictions were concerning, with a similarly horrific attack carried out on another ex-girlfriend, he said.

In 2015, Fraser tied a cord around his former partner‘s throat until she passed out and “played on her fear of hypodermic needles”.

“It sets much of a tone for his violence against women,” Mr Stark said.

Defence barrister Francis Martin said on the day of alleged offences, Fraser was influenced by alcohol from the night before and did not intend to cause harm to her pregnancy.

“He had been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia, and wasn't taking his meds at the time,” Mr Martin said.

‘He has acted the most terribly, the most serious is threatening with the scissors and stabbing,” he said.

At Fraser’s court appearance on Wednesday, February 15, via video link from Maryborough Correctional Centre, Mr Martin said Fraser “disagrees with the complainant that he punched her in the head and body, instead he backhanded her in the ribs”.

Mr Martin said Fraser believed his side of the story had not been put to the court properly and wanted to adjourn the matter.

Judge Gary Long SC remanded Fraser in custody to Maroochydore District Court on Thursday, February 23.
