Cherbourg residents allegedly target Gayndah’s Golden Orange, Ban Ban Springs fuel station in Burnett crime spree

Why is the rum gone? After allegedly smashing their way into a North Burnett pub, seven Cherbourg men left a trail of broken booze bottles before targeting a nearby fuel station, police say.

Police say a group of seven South Burnett residents left a breadcrumb trail of spilt rum leading out of the North Burnett, after forgetting to close the boot of the stolen car they were driving in a getaway.

According to Gayndah officer-in-charge Sergeant Don Auld, the Golden Orange Hotel was allegedly struck by the group of adults and children from Cherbourg during a “crime spree” last Monday.

Smashing their way into the hotel after midnight, the alleged offenders stole a quantity of alcohol – mostly rum – before leaving the scene in a stolen Nissan X-Trail

Sergeant Auld said the alleged offenders accidentally left the boot open, losing some of their “stolen booty” out of the back of the car as they made their way to Ban Ban Springs.

It is further alleged that once at Ban Ban Springs, they broke into a fuel station and stole cigarettes, drinks and snacks.

Police have so far arrested three people on various charges, including breaking and entering and stealing a vehicle. Sergeant Auld said Cherbourg police are rounding up the rest of the alleged offenders.

The stolen car has since been recovered.
