IT'S been quite a few years since country musician Tom Curtain graced the Kumbia Memorial Hall stage as a student.

He returned to that same stage for a special home-town performance on Saturday night, a feeling he described as "eerie”.

"It is pretty amazing. All the people are coming out of the woodwork that I've known for years and supported me since I started in 2001,” Curtain said.

"I haven't been back here in four years. It's good to see a bit of rain about.”

Curtain said he never imagined a music career while growing up on a Kumbia farm.

"I knew I loved living off the land,” he said.

"To be able to travel around singing my songs, and people singing along to the words, it's spine-tingling.”

Curtain's Territory Time tour comes on the back of two wins at the Golden Guitar Awards - CMC Video Clip of the Year and the Toyota Heritage Song of the Year.

"I'm just very grateful to be honest, I can't believe we've won the Golden Guitars up against such strong competition,” he said.

"The songs really connected to the people. That's what we're trying to do.”

Curtain is taking his tour to Western Australia before returning to the Northern Territory to continue running his show Katherine Outback Experience.
