A 27-year-old Murgon labourer was sentenced to jail on Tuesday after pleading guilty to speeding away from police in a car, jumping out a window and hiding in a shed.
Lucas dean Frahm appeared in the dock at Murgon Magistrates Court and was convicted of three driving while disqualified offences, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving uninsured and one charge of failing to stop for police.
Police prosecutor Barry Stevens said police they saw Frahm driving a car in Kingaroy in September 2023 after he had been disqualified from driving the previous February.
The police performed a U-turn with their lights and sirens activated before Frahm “drove away at speed,” Sergeant Stevens said.
The court heard police didn’t pursue Frahm but went to the registered owner of the car’s address the next day.
“The defendant was there, he jumped out of a window and attempted to hide in a shed,” Sgt Stevens said.
Sgt Stevens told the court police eventually found Frahm in the shed and arrested him.
On a later occasion while Frahm was driving through Wondai he was pulled over by police and it was discovered the number plates belonged to another car along with the car being unregistered and uninsured. Frahm was again driving while disqualified.
Sgt Stevens told the court Frahm said he was taking the car out “for a test drive”.
The court heard Frahm was arrested again on December 27, 2023 for failing to appear at his court date in October, 2023.
The court heard Frahm has had his driver’s licence disqualified twice in the past 12 months and had previous drink driving offences in 2013 and 2021.
Magistrate Andrew Sinclair sentenced Frahm to 60 days in prison wholly served, followed by four months on parole and suspended his licence for six years.
The court heard Frahm would have contract labouring work once he was released from prison and was also caring for his 10-year-old brother.
After Frahm is released on parole he will be in court again on April 3, 2024 in relation to other charges.
