Kindy teacher 'moved to tears' after placing second

She's passionate about celebrating major milestones and getting to know individual personalities of the Kindy children.

NICOLE Martin from Blackbutt Guppy's Early Learning Centre was moved to tears when she found out she had won runner up in our South Burnett's Best Kindy Teacher competition as voted by our readers.

"First I was shown all of the lovely nominations and it was just such an emotional moment," Miss Martin said.

"There wasn't just one or two or three - but so many. And, they all said such kind things about me and the impact I've had on their kids.

"Then when I found out I'd been voted in second place I cried. I was just so emotional and overwhelmed.

"I feel so loved and supported by the parents and community. It was the best feeling."

Miss Martin has been teaching at Blackbutt Guppy's Early Learning Centre for seven years now, and she has over 14 years of industry experience.

"I really just love the kids," she said.

"I love being able to interact with them every day. And, to learn from them just as much as they learn from me.

"Getting to know their individual personalities is so special to me. They're all so different and diverse and special in their own ways.

"All kids have something to offer and it's about finding how to connect with them to bring the best out of them."

Miss Martin said her favourite part of her job was being there for the major milestones.

"It's just such a good age they're all so open to learning and experiencing things for the first time," she said.

"I love to be a part of the important milestones.

"Such as the first time they learn to write their names."

Miss Martin said she wouldn't be able to do what she does without the support of the families and wider community.

"The families involved are fantastic. They're so forthcoming and honest which I love," she said.

"When we're honest and open with our communication it makes for a better relationship.

"Which is so important.

"After this I feel so appreciated by them. I'm so humbled by even being nominated."

Blackbutt Guppy's Learning Supervisor Megan Kilroy said Miss Martin was an asset to the team, and they were lucky to have her.

"Nicole has a real passion for children's learning and is very dedicated to making a difference to each child's learning and development journey," she said.

"Nicole creates wonderful learning activities for the children and has a very caring relationship with the children and family.

"She shares new ideas with the other educators and is a good mentor in her role as Education Leader.

"Nicole has a special bond with the children and families at Blackbutt Guppy's and takes a genuine interest in their wellbeing, learning journey and the community of Blackbutt."
