Do early Christmas shop at Orana Hilltop markets

Aged care residents open their homes to the community for their annual markets this weekend.

ORANA residents have been cooking up a storm, making oodles of jams, preserves and old-fashioned country cooking for Saturday's Orana Hilltop Markets.

South Burnett community members are encouraged to shop local for Christmas with handmade craft, home-cooked goodies and much more from 7.30am.

There will be a jumping castle, food and drink stalls, dance performances and singers.

Orana Service Manager Kym Zischke said with great weather predicted it was going to be a fun family day.

"This is our main fundraiser for the year and all proceeds go back to residents and community for creative programs promoting positive wellbeing for seniors at Orana and in the community," she said.

The Hilltop markets will run from 7.30am to 12.30pm at the Orana Aged Care and Retirement Living home at 24 MacDiarmid St, Kingaroy.

"Local businesses have been very generous and there's some great raffle prizes including 4Wding, camping, gardening, beauty and shopping," she said.

The residents have been working all year on different items for the markets.

There will be fairy gardens, jewellery, sun-catchers, crotched teddy bears and even bonsai trees.

The year-long project has given the seniors a new purpose by taking on the challenge of learning new skills and embracing their creativity
