New owner expands supermarket empire

New IGA owner Mirko Zlatkovic is excited to get involved with the Kingaroy community and his new team at SUPA IGA Kingaroy

A SOUTH Burnett business owner has expanded his presence in the supermarket world.

Mirko Zlatkovic is Kingaroy and Yarraman IGA's recent buyer and is also the current owner of two other IGAs in the region.

"In the region, my business partner Francis and I own Supa IGA Nanango, and IGA Wondai. Outside of the region we have five other stores," he said.

"As an expanding group looking to grow, it seemed to fit that we already had Nanango and Wondai to obviously try and add Kingaroy and Yarraman to our portfolios."

While taking the reins in the South Burnett region, Mr Zlatkovic is looking forward to learning more about the Kingaroy community.

"We're very excited to be more involved with the local community here in Kingaroy. I love being a part of supermarkets that are more regional based, where we rely on the community and the community relies on us," he said.

Not only is he excited to be a part of Kingaroy in general, but Mr Zlatkovic is also thrilled to be a part of the already well-functioning business.

"We think that Supa IGA Kingaroy is an absolutely fantastic business, I think it's amazing the way it's been built up, and how the community has gotten behind an independent like that," he said.

Mr Zlatkovic is impressed by the Kingaroy store and believes it's all thanks to John Hyslop, the previous owner.

"I think John has done a fantastic job. I met all of his core team last week, and they're a sensational group of people, so we're just hoping to continue business as per normal," he said.

"John actually approached us earlier in the year, so it has been quite a long process to get to where we are now, but we're still very enthusiastic for this to be happening."
