A MURGON apprentice is waiting to see if he will be named Apprentice of the Year.

Barambah Machinery's Karl Berlin is a finalist in the Motor Trades Association of Queensland competition.

He was selected as a finalist from more than 1800 MTA Institute apprentices throughout Queensland.

Mr Berlin is among a group of 10 other candidates in line for the top spot.

He recently completed his AUR30416 Certificate III in Agricultural Mechanical Technology apprenticeship.

MTA Institute trainer Terry Palfrey nominated Mr Berlin for the award after seeing his impressive quality of work.

"Karl's book work is exemplary, and he is constantly receiving top marks for his work,” Mr Palfrey said.

"He rises to every challenge and the feedback from clients is terrific.

"Karl deserves the recognition for his hard work.”

The winner will be revealed at the MTA Queensland Industry Awards Dinner on Saturday, November 16.

Mr Berlin said he was proud to be a finalist.

"It will be great to enjoy a night like that,” he said.

"I don't actually think too much about winning, although I would be very honoured if I did.”

MTA Queensland group chief executive Dr Brett Dale said the announcement of the Apprentice of the Year was the highlight of the awards dinner.

"It's an absolute pleasure to be able to acknowledge and celebrate the enormous achievement of these outstanding apprentices,” Dr Dale said.

"I am thrilled to see apprentices from regional and metropolitan Queensland in the running as well as a cross-section of automotive qualifications.”
