THE whole family can enjoy the opportunity of a lifetime this Saturday and take to the track to race against police... in go karts, that is.

The annual Take it to the Track event will be held at South Burnett Kart Hire just outside Nanango on the D'aguilar Highway.

The event will be running from between 9am to 3pm and will include go kart racing, a sausage sizzle, jumping castle, a driving simulator, free donuts, a traffic crash display, police equipment and much more.

"South Burnett Kart Hire are donating ten percent from each kart hire to the SES and ten percent to Police Legacy,” said Constable Tyler Roberts from the Nanango Police station.

This will be the third Take it to the Track, which also aims to raise awareness about road safety, a topic close to many South Burnett families hearts after the tragic fatal car crash that occurred on the D'Aguilar Highway, near Bushnells Road on Monday night.

"I hope the community will get out there on Saturday and support the event and change the way we think about the fatal five: speeding, drink and drug driving, failure to wear a seatbelt and driving while fatigued,” Con Roberts said.

"This event was initiated to help combat the high amount of vehicular accidents that were taking place in the Nanango area.”

"We wanted to create an event that would engage young L and P platers in a fun way, I think it's a lot more effective then giving them a sit down lecture,” Con Roberts said.

Kart hire prices are $14 for a 10-minute session or $19 for a 10-minute session for a double kart allowing adults to take small children around the track with them.

A go kart licence is also required which costs $3 per person and requires an adult to complete for children.

It's important to note that closed in footwear is also required to race.
