AS FIRES burned across the country destroying land, homes and wildlife habitats, Australians watched on.
But seeing the devastation the fires caused for koalas inspired South Burnett resident Amber Oliver to host a fundraising event.
The Conquer Fitness personal trainer has organised a dog’s day out for all pet owners and dog lovers at the Kingaroy gym.
“It is to bring more awareness because Kingaroy is not really affected by it, unless you know someone who is in it,” Miss Oliver said.
From 4pm on Friday, December 6, the event will include raffles, a sausage sizzle, dog races, a best-dressed competition, lucky dips, agility courses and races.
Entry and activities cost a gold coin donation.
All funds will be donated to a koala rescue, including 25 per cent of sales from gym products.
Miss Oliver said she wasn’t sure what to expect in terms of a fundraising total but that the major goal of the day was to raise as much as possible while highlighting the challenges affecting koalas.
