Bowenville crash: Ipswich man killed after serious truck crash on Warrego Highway

New details have emerged following a horror crash between a truck and car northwest of Toowoomba, which has killed an elderly man and left both lanes of the Warrego Highway closed. It comes amid a shocking spate of road deaths.

An 86-year-old Ipswich man has died after a serious truck and car crash at Bowenville, near Dalby.

The crash happened on the Warrego Highway, near Auchmah Rd, just after 9am on Monday.

Early investigations indicate the car was travelling west on the Warrego Highway and collided with the side of a semi-trailer carting wheat, which was heading in the opposite direction.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman earlier said paramedics were assessing two people, including the elderly man who was in critical condition.

He tragically died at the scene.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries and reportedly removed himself from the vehicle.

The highway is expected to remain closed in both directions for the next several hours.

The serious crash follows the deaths of two people on the Warrego Highway at Bowenville last week.

A Holden Astra and a Kenworth semi-trailer collided near Oakleigh Park Road on January 30 about 8.30am.

The truck left the road and crashed into a pole.

A 22-year-old Pialba woman, the driver of the car, and 45-year-old Nobby man, the driver of the truck, both died at the scene. They were the sole occupants of each vehicle.

Traffic was diverted both ways via Bowenville Blaxland Rd at Bowenville.

Forensic Crash Unit officers are investigating.
