THE South Burnett is the location for one of the most enviable jobs for sport lovers.
But the successful candidate has some big shoes to fill.
The National Rugby League is currently advertising for a new full-time Game Development Officer to join the team in South and Central Burnett.
The position was made available after the current GDO, Blake Mara accepted a position with the NRL based at the Parramatta Eels club.
Mara has laid some very strong foundations for grassroots rugby league in the South Burnett and his passion and energy will be sorely missed.
It is only hoped the person who steps into the role has the same drive so the region's future league stars can continue to flourish.
"The right person will have a good coaching knowledge and is relatable to the kids,” Mara said.
His advice for the new development officer was not to be scared to get their hands dirty.
"Get out into the trenches,” Mara said.
"Meet the people, that's the big thing.
"No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.”
An NRL Game Development Officer's focus is on growing participation of rugby league at all levels, growing the fan base, achieving deeper engagement and delivering community outcomes.
According to the advertisement for the NRL job description, no two days are likely to be the same.
One day you will be running a school clinic, the next attending a club meeting to update the committee on new NRL initiatives or convening a Gala Day in your area.
Applicants with teaching, junior rugby league coaching, first aid and/or administration experience would be suitable as well as people with experience in program development and facilitation.
