Light showers and sunshine are finally on the cards after thunderstorms smashed parts of Southeast Queensland over the weekend.
The Sunshine Coast and Brisbane were hit with intense storms on Saturday, with heavy rain, lightning and strong winds through the afternoon.
Bureau of Meteorology records show 108mm of rain at Kippa Ring in the 24 hours from 9am on Saturday, with Redland and Luggage Point on Brisbane’s bayside recording 58mm.
Godwin and Rothwell in the Moreton Bay region copped 59mm and 54mm respectively over the same period.
On the Sunshine Coast, 114mm fell at the Baroon Boat Ramp, 111mm at Obi Lookout, 115mm at Peachester and 101mm at Old Gympie Rd.
Senior Meteorologist Angus Hines said “passing showers” would continue until well into Tuesday.
“It is likely to bring some light rainfall to parts of the southeast including all of those coastal urban areas, so Sunshine Coast, down through Brisbane to the Gold Coast and across Coolangatta as well,” he said.
“In between those showers we are likely to get some nice, bright sunny breaks of weather.
“By Wednesday it looks like most of the wet weather ought to have cleared up and it should be primarily sunny for Wednesday and Thursday and even into the start of the Easter weekend.”
Mr Hines said the southeast would also experience average temperatures for the first half of the week.
“There are going to be somewhere near average for today with highs in the top half of the 20s. Looking at around 26C to 28C for a lot of places as we progress through the week,” he said.
Mr Hines said communities in the southwest were still being impacted by the ongoing flooding situation.
“That is forecast to continue through the week and probably into the next couple of weeks,” he said.
“It takes a long time for waters to drain through the river network in that part of the country. But it is slowly working its way down towards South Australia and New South Wales.”
