Mystery Warrego Hwy truck fire under investigation

A HUNTING trip has had a shocking end for four men after their truck caught on fire on the Warrego Hwy near Yuleba.

One of the men, 35, was taken to Roma Hospital to be treated for burns to his foot but was discharged shortly after.

Roma station officer Brad Lambourne said the Brisbane men were returning from Mungallala this morning when they noticed the back of the vehicle on fire about 10am.

"It caught on fire while they were driving along. They pulled over and tried to put it out," he said.

Rifles and ammunition used during their trip were stored in the back of the truck but Officer Lambourne said it was a secure and a normal amount for a hunting trip.

The officer said the front of the truck's tray had been engulfed in flames but he was glad the men were able to take the truck off the road.

The blaze caused delays on the highway, with traffic diverted for about 20 minutes while crews worked to secure the area.
