Roma residents know that Roma is a great town, and now it’s time for residents to share everything that makes the southwest hub great with the rest of Australia.

Roma has officially been listed as a finalist in the Queensland Tourism Industry Council’s search for the Top Tourism Town, with voting now open to the public.

If Roma is voted the Top Tourism Town in Queensland, it will go on to represent the state at the national awards later this year.

The awards are divided into three categories, a tiny town with a population below 1500, a small town with between 1500 - 5000 residents, and the Top Tourism Town award with a population of 5000.

Roma has been shortlisted for the Top Tourism Town Award, and it’s in good company with Bowen, Redcliffe and Rockhampton all nominated for the same award.

Mayor of the Maranoa, Wendy Taylor called upon residents to get behind the region.

“We are thrilled to see the Top Tourism Town program shine a light on Roma as a gateway to our amazing region, as well as its rich heritage and unique attractions,” she said.

“Locals and frequent visitors know the treasures that the region holds, but these awards are a terrific opportunity to showcase the Maranoa to the rest of Australia,” she said.

Queensland Tourism Industry council chief executive Brett Fraser said the winner is now down to the public vote.

“We are calling on the public to recognise their best-loved destinations by voting for who they think should be crowned a Queensland Top Tourism Town,” said Mr Fraser.

“This is a great opportunity for locals and Queenslanders alike to reward their favourite regional destinations for providing an amazing visitor experience.

“Each finalist is a local treasure. From outback discoveries in Croydon and Quilpie to coastal escapes in Airlie Beach and Hervey Bay, each community showcases the very best that Queensland has to offer visitors.

“It is not just the homegrown attractions that drive guests to our regional holiday hotspots. It is the local communities that rally together to provide visitors with an unforgettable and welcoming experience that really put a destination on the map of travellers. The awards celebrate these communities.

“Congratulations to this year’s finalists for working together in making holidaymakers feel welcome, and for demonstrating that you do not need to travel far in our Sunshine State to enjoy an incredible experience,” Mr Fraser said.

You can vote for Roma as Queensland’s Top Tourism Town here. Voting opened on May 10, and will close on May 17.
