South West Queensland police were kept busy over the Australia Day weekend, responding to a number of incidents across the region.

Here are some of the offences that landed people in hot water.

Woman bit, scratched police officers

A 38-year-old St George woman will face court on a number of serious offences after police were called to a home on January 25.

The woman was charged with two counts of serious assault against a police officer, and one count of obstructing police after police were called to a house in St George on January 25 at about 7pm, where the woman allegedly bit one officer, and scratched another.

Police arrested the woman, who has been placed on bail until her appearance in the St George Magistrates Court on February 13 in relation to her offences.

Drunk driver has plates seized

Police have disqualified a Roma man’s driver’s licence and seized his licence plates after he allegedly returned a staggering breath alcohol concentration reading while driving unlicensed.

The 39-year-old man was intercepted on Hasted St in Roma on January 28 at 1pm. Police allege the man was driving unlicensed and under the influence of alcohol.

Police arrested the man, and at the station he allegedly returned a staggering breath alcohol reading of 0.246, almost five times the driving limit.

Police allege the man is a repeat unlicensed driving offender, leading police to immediately disqualify his licence and seize his plates for 90 days.

The man is set to appear in Roma magistrates court on February 7.

Slew of charges, fines against woman

A Chinchilla woman is facing a raft of charges and fines after she was pulled over by police on January 28 at 11am.

The 35-year-old woman was fined almost $1000 for allegedly driving an unregistered and defective vehicle, and towing an unregistered trailer.

A police search of the woman’s vehicle allegedly uncovered a white crystalline substance, two smoking pipes, a knife and a scope from a rifle which was suspected to be stolen.

Police charged the woman with possessing dangerous drugs, possessing drugs utensils, possessing a knife in public, and possessing suspected stolen goods. Police fined the woman $247 for towing an unregistered trailer, $371 for driving an unregistered vehicle, and $309 for driving an unsafe vehicle, as well as docked her three demerit points.

The woman has been issued a notice to appear in the Dalby Magistrates Court on February 20.

Roma public nuisance

A Roma woman has been fined almost $500 for a public outburst of swearing, yelling and pointing.

Police were called to a Wyndham St address after reports of a woman behaving in a disorderly manner which interrupted the flow of business on January 24 at 9am.

Police investigated further, sourcing footage of the woman’s behaviour.

The 35-year-old woman was fined $464 for public nuisance on January 25.
