Magistrate Shane Elliott said from what he’s been told, “it’s a relatively large brief (of evidence).”

Dennis and Harrison were charged in early January in connection with the death of six-year-old Riley Wells after he was allegedly left behind in a car that was hit by a semi-trailer on the Carnarvon Highway at Injune.

It’s alleged a white Toyota LandCruiser was travelling south about 2.10am when it left the road and rolled before coming to rest in the northbound lane.

Police allege the vehicle was being driven by Mr Dennis, with Ms Harrison and Riley Wells passengers in the vehicle.

Following the crash it is alleged the two adults were able to free themselves, however the boy was not removed from the vehicle and was still in the LandCruiser when it was struck by a passing prime mover. Riley tragically died at the scene.

Two days before the anniversary of the boy’s death Mr Dennis was charged with one count of manslaughter, dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death and taking a protected animal, with Ms Harrison charged with one count of manslaughter and taking a protected animal.
