GOVERNOR Paul de Jersey is hitting the road to the outback this week, set for visits to Mitchell and Charleville on Tuesday.

On his trip, Queensland’s representative to the Queen will have the distinct honour of presenting an Order of Australia medal to Mrs Marvelle Kerslake of Mitchell – a dedicated volunteer in the small bush community.

Mrs Kerslake was originally awarded her OAM at Australia Day celebrations in Mitchell.

After presenting Mrs Kerslake with her medal, Mr de Jersey will head to Charleville, where he will officially open the town’s long-awaited planetarium.

He will also take time to meet student leaders from all of Charleville’s schools while in town.

Originally, the governor was scheduled to tour the region in April, opening local shows and a number of local events in addition to the visits on this week’s trip; however, COVID-19 threw a spanner in the works and postponed the tour.

Due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions, only invited guests will be permitted to attend the events.

Mr de Jersey will also visit Goondiwindi on this western tour.
