“It gives the natural grass a chance to grow before the buffel grass comes through.

“I drove through very heavy rain past Hurtle Estate on the Bymount Road after dark and had to go about 60 to 80km.”

Fellow farmer and son, Paul Christiansen, said his cattle grazing property 65km northwest of Roma got about 33mm of rain.

“We’re having a good season for sure and setting up for a good summer,” he said.

“It’ll be better once it gets a bit warmer.

“It’s similar to last year, but there’s a bit more winter rain this year.

“Hopefully we can get a couple more good seasons in a row.”

More rain is expected to fall over the coming days and into the next week as several waves pass through the state from the west.

According to the BOM, most of the rain has hit northern and far western Queensland, with Emerald experiencing a whopping 146mm since Tuesday morning and Barcoo River catchments expected to continue exceeding the minor flooding level of 2.10 metres with more rises predicted over the next few days.
