Maranoa Regional Council is urging residents to lock up their dogs following a vicious attack that left a local with a lifelong injury.
In a social media post, the council said there had been four reported attacks within the first two months of 2025 and 15 since September 2024.
This included one attack that left a local resident with permanent injuries to their hand.
Last week the council said it had impounded seven roaming dogs by just 10am and called on pet owners to be more vigilant.
“Each dog attack is a distressing event for both the victim and their families,” spokeswoman for Community Safety Amber Davis said in a statement.
“It is critical that all pet owners take full responsibility for their animals and ensure they are securely contained at all times.
“The safety and wellbeing of our residents is of the utmost importance, and we must work together to prevent further incidents like the one that left a local resident with permanent injuries.”
Ms Davis said the attacks served as a reminder to all pet owners that allowing their dogs to roam free could have dire consequences.
“We urge all dog owners to take extra care, ensuring their pets are securely confined within their property,” she said.
“It’s not just about preventing legal repercussions; it’s about protecting our neighbours, our families and our friends.”
Pet owners with dogs found wandering could be subject to a $322 fine.
