Australia Day Award nominations are closing soon

Know an unsung hero in the community who deserves a little recognition? Now is the time to nominate them for the 2020 Australia Day Awards.

NOW IS the time to recognise the unsung heroes of the southwest, by nominating them for the 2020 Australia Day awards.

The clock is ticking on the submission deadline, and local councils are calling on residents to get their last minute entires in before 4pm on Friday, November 29.

Australia Day Awards are designed to recognise outstanding locals, who have made significant contributions to their community and a variety of fields.

They could be a friend or a neighbour, a colleague, or a member of a local sporting group, but the common thread among all nominees is that they are quiet achievers – the kind of people who often go unnoticed in our busy lives, yet works selflessly to improve the lives of others.

Each year, Australia Day Awards are presented at community celebrations run by the respective shire or regional councils, and cover a number of categories, including:

• Citizen of the Year

• Young Citizen of the Year

• Community Event of the Year

• Cultural achievement

• Sports achievement

• Junior sports achievement

• Club member contribution

• Community Groups

• Environmental commitment

• Service to the disability sector

Each shire and region presents a variety of awards, which are listed on the following local nomination forms:

Maranoa Regional Council

Murweh Shire Council

Paroo Shire Council

Quilpie Shire Council
