Plans for a new kindergarten to be located adjacent to St Peter’s Catholic Primary School in South Rockhampton have been revealed.

Vacant land now sits at 19 Ward Street after a four-bedroom Queenslander home was removed and the main child centre is proposed to be built on this site.

The home at 21 Ward Street has already been removed to create vacant land for the new proposed centre.

The site plan includes the main building, a covered outdoor area, outdoor play area, shed and short-term carpark.

The Catholic Diocese of Rockhampton purchased this site in 2018 for $661,000.

The adjoining block, 52 Henry Street, is proposed to house a long-term carpark for the centre.

MORE CHILDCARE CENTRE PLANS IN THE REGION

Childcare seems to be a booming industry in Central Queensland as many centres are expanding and new ones are under construction.

Plans were lodged in August for a 106-space child care centre to built at 50 Main Street, Park Avenue. The centre would employ up to 19 staff and care for children from 0-36 months.

Construction is underway at Green Leaves Early Learning at Stockland Rockhampton, on the site of the former Colonial Mart near Mandalay Medical Centre.

The centre is expected to open by early 2022 and has 100 spaces for children from six weeks to six years.

Rockhampton Grammar School also lodged plans to expand with a new two-storey building at their early learning centre, which would allow for 44 more students and six more staff.

Another centre was proposed earlier in the year on Tanby Road, Yeppoon, for 115-places and The Real Group lodged plans for a child care service at its Barmaryee site.

Rockhampton-based company Natural Wonders is also expanding with a third centre, to be located in Parkhurst.

The 152-space centre will start construction in early 2022, to be completed in January 2023.

Genius Childcare, Allenstown, is also expanding, increasing its capacity by 59 extra children, taking its total to 132 children.
