Totty Murphy’s dad Cecil to be sentenced for charge of car arson

The father of a toddler who drowned last year after a tragic home incident will be sentenced next month for his involvement in an alleged car torching.

Mr Murphy’s matter has been listed for sentence in the Rockhampton District Court on November 17.

Ms Eason’s matter was committed to the Rockhampton District Court on September 8, 2023.

The couple, neither of whom have officially entered pleas yet, suffered the tragic loss of her daughter Taidyn ‘Totty’ Murphy in a drowning incident in September 2022.

Court records show the couple were charged in relation to a car fire alleged to have occurred on November 30, 2022, in Taigum – a northern suburb of Brisbane.

Some of the allegations surrounding the arson charge were revealed during the sentencing of a woman who harassed Ms Eason following her toddler’s death.

Her online harasser and husband’s ex-girlfriend, Jessie Ella Ayling, was sentenced to 12 months probation on Wednesday, May 17, for using a carriage service to menace, harass, or cause offence to Ms Brown.

The court heard Ayling had sent harassing messages telling Ms Brown to kill herself and made posts and TikTok blaming Ms Brown for Totty’s death.

At Ayling’s sentencing earlier this year, defence lawyer Mickaela Brown said it was alleged Ms (Tahlia) Brown had set one of Ms Ayling’s friends’ cars on fire.

Both Mr Murphy and Ms Eason are on bail.
