A court has heard that a Central Queensland mum used methamphetamine as a “numbing agent” to deal with the troubles in her life.
Ebony Louise Williams, 31, pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to three counts of possessing dangerous drugs, and four counts of possessing drug utensils.
The court heard Williams was busted with drugs on three separate occasions - January 21 (cannabis - 34g), January 28 (methamphetamine - 0.1g) and February 8 (cannabis - 28.45g).
Each of those times she was also found with drug utensils.
Police prosecutor Brandon Selic submitted fines were still in range for Williams but a probation order may be more beneficial.
Williams had a one-page criminal history and she had been dealt with in court twice before for “minor” drug offences, the court heard.
Solicitor Stephen White said Williams, a mother, had suffered a “very impoverished” childhood and she had experienced traumatic events during her life.
“The methamphetamine use... it is a numbing agent that is assisting my client with the difficulties she has suffered from a young age,” Mr White said.
“The cannabis use is to alleviate severe pain - stomach aches and nauseousness from Crohn’s Disease, a disease which was diagnosed in 2023.
“Certainly no excuse (for the offending) but puts some context around the substance abuse.”
Mr White said probation could help Williams as she was “greatly in need of some extra support.”
Magistrate Mary Buchanan placed Williams on 12 months’ probation and no conviction was recorded.
