A Struck Oil resident has been left heartbroken after the cherished blue Holden HQ Monaro that has been with him for most of his life was stolen from his home while he was at work.
John Moyle, who lives on the corner of the Burnett Highway and Leydens Hill Rd, left for work at 6am Thursday morning to discover his pride and joy missing.
“I looked and I saw the gate open and I thought ‘what’s the gate doing open? I shut that when I was there’ and I drove forward and looked over and it was there no more,” he said.
“It used to be a regular thing for me to drive my car into the mount when it was in its heyday; it’s been part of my life for over 35 years.”
Mr Moyle said he believed the person or people who stole the car were “casing out” his property.
“I leave just after five to start by six, sometimes it’s a bit earlier,” he said.
“They’ve obviously been watching the place and know what they wanted and may have been in and worked out how they were going to go about it.”
Mr Moyle said he was “gutted” about the car being stolen.
“My son and myself were going to use it as a common project to get it up and in the condition it should be in,” he said.
“We were going at (entering it in) Summernats as a display car, but somebody else decided that I shouldn’t own my car.
“The last time it was seen it was seen heading north near Heights College on a trailer.”
Mr Moyle said many Central Queensland car enthusiasts would stop by his home to talk about how much they loved seeing his monaro.
“There’s been a number of people over the years who have offered to buy it. I’ve had some pretty good offers,” he said.
It’s not the first time Mr Moyle has experienced heartache with the vehicle, with the car previously damaged by fires.
People also attempted to steal the vehicle a few years ago.
“On a Saturday afternoon I went up to see my daughter and her partner and my grandson, I didn’t look to my right and I had a neighbour call and say ‘John have you sold that two-door?’ and I said ‘no why?’ and he said there were two or three people trying to load it onto a trailer,” he said.
