A man who crashed a car at Yeppoon while drunk in April had never held a driver’s licence, a court has heard.
Rueben Ryan Doak, 23, pleaded guilty in Yeppoon Magistrates Court on August 25 to drink-driving and unlicensed driving.
The court heard that at 5pm on April 12, Doak crashed a Volvo sedan at Young Avenue, Kinka Beach.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Kevin Ongheen said it was Doak who called police and notified them of the crash.
“Due to injuries from the traffic crash, (Doak) was transported to the Yeppoon hospital as a precaution,” Sgt Ongheen said.
Sgt Ongheen said Doak told police that he had gone for a drive to “cool off” after an argument with family members.
“And he lost control (of the vehicle) on a gravel road,” Sgt Ongheen said.
Police checks revealed that Doak had never held a driver’s licence and he also returned a positive for drink-driving (BAC .137).
The court heard that Doak had no previous traffic history.
Doak represented himself in court and Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale told him that he should have gone for a walk to cool down, and this incident could have turned out much worse.
She fined Doak $1200 and disqualified him from driving for 10 months.
