Rockhampton teenager dies after crash at Kawana

A teenager killed in a horror crash near Rockhampton had strong ties to the same community where two toddlers died in a separate tragedy overnight, it can be revealed. LATEST.

A teenager who died after losing control of a car which crashed into a tree on Rockhampton’s northside was also known and loved in a community already mourning the loss of two toddlers overnight.

Speaking to police in Rockhampton on Saturday, Detective Superintendent Darrin Shadlow confirmed the 19-year-old, who was killed in the crash about 3am, had been living in Rockhampton but had “strong ties” to Woorabinda where two boys died in what appears to be a tragic accident on Friday night.

Miriam Kemp has been remembered by family and friends as having a heart of gold.

According to a Queensland Police statement, investigations indicate the Holden Berlina sedan was travelling along Crane Ave at Kawana before it went off the road and crashed.

Emergency crews arrived on scene a short time later and attempted to treat the driver but she was declared dead at the scene.

Her 17-year-old female passenger was taken to Rockhampton Hospital and has since been discharged.

The forensic crash unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the crash, car, or may have any relevant CCTV or dashcam footage to come forward.
