Floral tributes are growing at the scene where a 19-year-old Mirian Grace Kemp was tragically killed in a crash at the weekend.

It comes as loved ones continue to remember the daughter, sister and friend “Meme” who died when the Holden Berlina she was driving hit a tree on Crane Ave, Kawana in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police investigations indicate the sedan was travelling along Crane Ave before it went off the road and crashed about 3am.

Emergency crews arrived on scene a short time later and attempted to treat her, but tragically, the 19-year-old was declared dead at the scene.

Her 17-year-old female passenger, from Koongal, was taken to Rockhampton Hospital and has since been discharged.

Speaking to police in Rockhampton on Saturday, Detective Superintendent Darrin Shadlow confirmed the young woman had been living in Rockhampton but had “strong ties” to Woorabinda where two boys died in what appeared to be a tragic accident on Friday night.

It’s understood she grew up or spent part of her life in Rockhampton and attended North Rockhampton State High School.

Woorabinda was near to heart and she followed the council and also a daily Bible study page.

Speaking to this publication, Sandra Bird, who wanted to be known as “Miriam’s Mum” as she’d helped raise her, described her as “such a beautiful, delightful daughter”.

“Meme was my first child that came into my care, I had always desired a daughter, and I am so blessed to have been given the privilege to have been part of Meme’s life,” she said.
