A Central Queensland Red Rooster will remain closed indefinitely as early investigations point to a likely cause of a fire which forced an emergency evacuation and badly damaged the store. LATEST.

The future of Gladstone’s Red Rooster is uncertain days after a fire broke out at the fast-food restaurant.

Fire crews were called to the building on Far Street in West Gladstone just after 4.30pm on Wednesday.

Huge plumes of black and grey smoke could be seen coming out of the roof, noticeable in the air from quite some distance away.

Up to seven Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crews attended to the blaze.

Staff and customers were evacuated and one person was treated for smoke inhalation by paramedics but did not require hospital treatment.

Fire crews exited the building at 5.10pm and the blaze was reported to be out of control by 5.15pm.

Queensland Police Service attended and early investigations indicate an electrical fault in the airconditioning unit started the fire.

A QFES spokesman said its fire investigation unit had been tasked to investigate the fire.

Online ordering has been turned off on Red Rooster’s website for the Gladstone store and the phone line is disconnected.

It is the only Red Rooster restaurant in the city and had been at the site since at least 2008.

It is unclear when the store may reopen.

“The matter is currently under investigation but we are doing everything we can to ensure that the restaurant reopens soon,” a Red Rooster spokesperson said.
