A domestic violence perpetrator tore a woman’s hair out during an assault, a Central Queensland court has heard.

The 68-year-old male offender, who by law cannot be named, pleaded guilty in Biloela Magistrates Court on March 22 to contravening a domestic violence order.

Police prosecutor Jennifer Leach said on the afternoon of October 27 last year, the man was working outside in the carport while the aggrieved woman, his partner, slept.

Ms Leach said the man had been drinking “a large amount” of alcohol during the day.

The prosecutor said the woman woke up and went to the toilet and while she was there, the man approached and started yelling and abusing her.

“The (man) then grabbed (the woman) by the hair, dragging her into the lounge room and kitchen area,” Ms Leach said.

Ms Leach said the woman struggled to get free, striking the man in the face.

“The (woman) has managed to get away from the (man) after he has pulled out some of her hair.”

The court heard the woma went out to the veranda and called Triple Zero, telling the call taker to “get her out of there”.

Ms Leach said when police arrived at the house, the man was still yelling at the woman and officers had to separate them.

“Police observed clumps of hair on the floor in the kitchen, as indicated by the (woman).”

The man was taken to a police station where he was arrested and released on bail.

The court heard on the day of this incident, the man was heavily intoxicated and returned a blood alcohol reading of .266.

The court was told the man had a history of domestic violence offending which had previously resulted in him serving actual time in jail.

Solicitor Richard Parks said the man had no domestic violence offending prior to this relationship.

Mr Parks said despite the history and this latest incident, both the man and the woman wanted to remain together.

Mr Parks said both parties drank alcohol heavily, their relationship had been plagued by “alcohol and arguments”, and since this latest incident, the man had quit alcohol.

“They’re still together, they want to stay together,” Mr Parks said.

Magistrate Philippa Beckinsale sentenced the man to six months’ jail with immediate parole.

A conviction was recorded.
