A Rockhampton father accused of punching his sister in the face claims she actually threw a portable clothesline at him and he simply blocked it with his arm, causing it to fold up and hit her.
Ethan Shannon Anderson, 27, applied for bail in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on September 26.
Mr Anderson was charged with one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm and possessing dangerous drugs.
Police prosecutor Sergeant David Longhurst opposed bail for Mr Anderson.
It is alleged the father of three assaulted his sister by punching her once in the face.
Defence lawyer Ashley Reynolds said her client was contesting the alleged assault charge and sought a brief of evidence.
Ms Reynolds said her client claimed about a month ago he was residing with his mother when his sister arrived early in the morning and began yelling at another person at the house.
She said her client then yelled at her to shut up and that he claimed she then became aggressive and threw a portable clothesline at him.
She said her client put his arm up to stop it and the clothesline folded up, causing it to then hit the alleged victim.
She said her client “conceded” the drug charge, and he would comply with bail conditions, including an ankle bracelet, reporting to Rockhampton Police Station, and having no contact with the alleged victim.
Acting Magistrate Paul Byrne granted Mr Anderson bail with conditions and adjourned his matters to November 8.
