A Central Qld man has been charged with more than 200 child exploitation offences.

A Central Queensland man has been charged with 214 child exploitation and sex offences, including 94 of making child exploitation material.

The man, 58, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared in Rockhampton Magistrates Court on March 30 for one fresh charge of sexual assault while his other matters were mentioned during the committal call over session that afternoon.

The charges are 94 counts of making child exploitation material (CEM), 71 observations or recordings in breach of privacy – genital or anal region, 28 counts of observations or recordings in breach of privacy, four counts of possess CEM, 16 x indecent treatment of a child under 16 – lineal descendant and one of sexual assault.

Court documents show the charges date between January 1, 2003 and September 8, 2021, and the alleged offences took place in a Central Queensland mining town.

The four possess child exploitation material charges were dated September 8, 2021.

The alleged sexual assault took place sometime between October 31, 2018 and September 9, 2018.

One of the alleged indecent treatment of a child offences took place between January 1, 2003 and December 31, 2016.

All other charges’ dates ranged between March 5, 2008 and May 9, 2012.

Defence lawyer Mirren Smith said McGowran and Cagney law firm had received the briefs of evidence for all but the sexual assault charge about two weeks ago and the sexual assault charge was from the same investigation as the other 213 charges.

She said the solicitor assigned the case, Rebecca Harris, had not yet read through all of the evidence.

The man’s matters were adjourned until May 11 and his bail was enlarged.
