An alcoholic not wanting to break her curfew threatened to stab staff inside a Rockhampton restaurant with a steak knife when they refused to call her taxi.

Rockhampton Magistrates Court heard Bobbie Jo Bond, 40, went inside the restaurant at Quality Hotel Regent Rockhampton in May and wanted staff to call her a taxi because she wanted to get home for her curfew, but the staff could not and told her to leave.

Magistrate Grace Kahlert said a drunk Bond became angry and picked up a steak knife from one of the tables and threatened to stab the staff.

“That would have been really scary for those people who were working in that restaurant,” she said.

Ms Kahlert said Bond then went outside and, while still holding the knife, told a member of the public, “Go ahead you old dog, I will stab you”.

She said Bond kept walking towards the woman while holding the knife.

“She would have been really scared,” she said.

“Police came and they were so worried they had to pull out their guns.

“You were very lucky it wasn’t more serious.”

Earlier, on March 29, Bond, who was not well and needed to go back hospital, assaulted police officers who tried to take her to the hospital.

Ms Kahlert said Bond kicked one of the officers and then while at the hospital lunged at the officer supervising her, threatened her and called her “terrible names”.

She said a nurse attended to give Bond medical treatment and she said she would smash her, called her “terrible names” and spat at her.

“Fortunately it didn’t hit her,” she said.

“That is a disgusting thing to do, especially to someone who is trying to help you.”

Ms Kahlert said later while handcuffed Bond again assaulted the same police officer she had kicked earlier, headbutting them in the head and chest.

Defence lawyer Samantha Fernandez said her client started drinking alcohol and using marijuana at 15 years old and said she was an alcoholic.

“She described her alcohol use started as sporadic however developed into a real issue,” she said.

Ms Fernandez said her client’s behaviour in May was due to “excessive alcohol consumption”.

She said her client was remorseful for her actions and ashamed for her behaviour.

Ms Fernandez said her client wanted to quit consuming alcohol and marijuana and engage with Helem Yumba.

She said her client was diagnosed with schizophrenia at 12 years old and received depot medication.

Ms Fernandez said on March 29 her client was overdue for her depot medication and was remorseful for her behaviour towards the people who were helping her.

The mother-of-two is currently homeless and staying with friends, her lawyer said.

Bond pleaded guilty on Friday to two counts each of serious assault police and common assault, and one count each of assaulting a police officer, stealing, possessing a knife, public nuisance, public nuisance within a hospital and breaching bail.

Ms Kahlert sentenced Bond to 12 months prison with immediate parole.

She also activated nine-month, three-month and one-month suspended sentences from August 2023 and ordered they be served at the time.
